Quark Expeditions president Sam Seward has identified scope to introduce further land-based options.
Since joining the polar specialist from Exodus Adventure Travels in December, he said he had recognised a “wonderful opportunity” to increase the number of experiences available to clients.
He added: “We currently offer quite a small range of additional nights before [sailings] and some add-on ancillary things, but as a long-standing tour operator person I’m thinking, ‘Wow, what an opportunity to try to offer guests something else’.”
Asked whether the company would consider entering warmer regions, he said “our mantra is always Polar” but new products were regularly being considered.
“Our focus is on trying to expand the ways you can approach a really diverse environment, so if we’re adding new stuff it’s things like our circumnavigation of Iceland or our Greenland itineraries,” he said.
Special-interest elements are also viewed as key opportunities, he said, citing a solar eclipse voyage departing in August that has sold well.
He added: “Agents should take away this: Quark does Polar. Our entire fleet and all of our staff and all of our mindset is about optimising our guest experience for Polar.”
