Swiss leisure airline Edelweiss is starting a new route from Glasgow airport.
A summer seasonal service by the Lufthansa Group airline will serve Zurich.
A twice-weekly schedule to Switzerland’s largest city will run on Mondays and Fridays between May 29 and September 14, allowing for city breaks to the Swiss Alps gateway.
Chris Tibbett, aviation director at Glasgow Airport owner AGS Airports, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Edelweiss to Glasgow Airport with this exciting new service to Zurich.
“This route not only offers our passengers direct access to one of Europe’s most charming cities with world-class museums and stunning Alpine views but also provides seamless connectivity via its efficient Zurich hub.
“The addition of Edelweiss strengthens our long-standing partnership with the Lufthansa Group and enhances travel options for both leisure and business passengers across Scotland.”
Meanwhile, Edelweiss will equip its entire fleet with Starlink’s high-speed internet.
The plan is to equip all Airbus A320, Airbus A320neo, and Airbus A350 aircraft.
The introduction is part of a Lufthansa Group connectivity initiative, which is equipping its fleet of 850 aircraft with satellite technology for onboard internet access.
The exact timetable for the gradual equipping of the Edelweiss fleet is currently still being planned, according to the airline.
