Tauck to double Rhône River capacity with second luxury new-build in 2028

Tauck is set to double its capacity on the Rhône River in France with a second ship in 2028.

The new-build Harmonie will double the luxury operator’s capacity on the river, joining sister ship Lumière.

Tauck said the Rhône was one of its most “in-demand river destinations” with sales nearly 30% ahead of last year.

Both vessels have capacity for 130 passengers with a sun deck, swimming pool, bar, wellness area and a fitness centre, among other facilities.

This investment comes as Lumière and Serene debut in France this year, and Reverie and Saudade are set to arrive in 2027 in France and Portugal, increasing overall capacity by more than 50%.

The operator will also offer expanded shoulder season departures and a shorter six-day itinerary, and retire two older ships.

Agents can reserve a space on 2028 departures and cancel and receive a full refund of their deposits when pricing and final itinerary details are announced in the autumn.

Chief executive Jennifer Tombaugh said: “River cruising continues to be one of the most popular ways guests first experience Tauck, and the feedback our river guests have shared over the years shapes every ship we build.

“The name Harmonie, which carries the same meaning in French and English, speaks to what we hope guests feel on board and along the river: a sense of balance, ease and connection to the places we explore.”
