A strong focus on trade engagement is being promised with the appointment of a UK-based market manager for Tourism Tasmania.
The role has been created to capitalise on what the tourism body sees as growing interest in Australia’s only island state.
Deborah Pearce brings more than 25 years’ experience in the travel industry to the position.
She is the founder of Wire Representation and has trade experience representing Australian destinations, including Tourism Western Australia and Tourism Noosa.
In her new role, she will work closely with tour operators, agents, airlines and Tourism Australia, equipping the trade with the tools, knowledge and confidence to sell the destination, according to the tourism body.
An expanded range of trade activity will be introduced in the coming months, including agent training, in-market activations, B2B engagement and co-operative marketing initiatives.
Tourism Tasmania head of trade, partnerships and international, Monica Armesto, said: “We’re excited to welcome Deborah into this role at such an important time for our international growth.
“The UK remains a priority market, and Tasmania’s strong appeal - particularly among experience-led and high-value travellers - presents a significant opportunity for the trade.
“Deborah’s appointment underlines our commitment to building deeper partnerships and ensuring the industry is well equipped to showcase Tasmania as a must-visit destination within any Australian itinerary.”
Pearce added: “There’s a real opportunity to grow awareness and demand in the UK through strong partnerships with the travel trade.
“I’m looking forward to working closely with partners to bring Tasmania’s story to life and inspire more people to discover the island’s unique, diverse and high-quality range of experiences.”
