Greek specialist transfers holidaymakers amid Corfu fires

Sunvil and GIC The Villa Collection transferred holidaymakers to alternative accommodation in Corfu after wildfires led to authorities to evacuate properties in northeast of the island.

Other accommodation was sourced for those due to travel to the affected ares of the island today (Monday).

Managing director Chris Wright said: “Sadly, the fire spread and the local authorities quickly took the decision to evacuate the area as well as a number of resorts along the coast – including those of Kalami, Barbeti and Nissaki featured by Sunvil and GIC The Villa Collection.

“Together with the authorities, our local representatives have transferred all affected guests – the airport for those scheduled to depart today and to alternative accommodation for those with longer stays on the island.

“The transfer of the holiday to a new destination or departure date has been offered alongside a full refund.”

He added: “The team and I are deeply saddened by the fires affecting Corfu and Rhodes. We have a long history with both destinations and call many islanders our friends and partners.

“Our thoughts are with all those touched by this sad situation and we give thanks to those working tirelessly to tackle the fires and to bring people to safety.”

Sunvil chairman said: “Our next arrivals into Rhodes, which we use as a gateway to the Dodecanese islands, are during the first week of August. The type of holidays we feature in the Dodecanese are popular mostly in the low and mid season, and not in the peak.”
