Foreign Office travel advisories have been issued for Vietnam and Laos ahead of the arrival of Typhoon Kajiki.
Amid reports of more than 586,000 people being evacuated in Vietnam, the fresh UK travel advice warned of high winds and heavy rainfall.
“Areas including Hue, Thanh Hoa, Ha Noi, Ninh Binh and Danang (pictured) are forecast to be affected, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) said.
“There is an increased risk of flooding and mudslides in affected areas in the days after landfall.
“You should expect travel disruption and should follow the advice of local authorities.”
Vietnam Airlines cancelled a number of flights on Sunday and warned of potential knock-on delays or cancellations today (Monday)
Kajiki skirted past Hainan in China before heading for Vietnam and Laos.
The advice for central and northern Laos cautions over “risks of heavy rainfall and landslides, mudslides and fallen trees, especially along the railway corridor”.
The FCDO added: “The rainy season in Laos normally runs from May to October, at the same time as the typhoon season in south-east Asia.
“The season started early in 2025 with higher-than-expected levels of rain. This means that river levels are above average and heavy rainstorms may cause unexpected and serious flooding.
“Be aware of local advice, social media coverage and follow the advice of the local authorities.”
