Why Tobago is hot for 2026

Tobago has always championed ecotourism, but this year it has the perfect excuse. Main Ridge Forest Reserve, the island’s verdant spine, marks its 250th anniversary, making it the oldest legally protected forest reserve in the western hemisphere. It’s a wilderness brimming with biodiversity and is a particular hotspot for twitchers, home to 260 bird species including collared trogons, rufous‑vented chachalacas and Trinidad motmots.

New airport terminal

This year will also see Tobago open its new, state-of-the-art terminal at the ANR Robinson International Airport. Once the terminal is opened, it will streamline airport operations, offering better international connectivity. Clients can also expect a more modern and comfortable airport experience, while new lounges will satisfy customers travelling in business class.

A year of celebration

Tobago knows how to party and this year sees the return of several cultural festivals. In July, the Tobago Heritage Festival (July 1-August 1) honours the island’s unique traditions and culture via musical performances and storytelling in its villages. For food-loving clients, the Tobago Blue Food Festival (October 18) puts the pastel blue‑hued dasheen into focus, with local chefs crafting dishes around this beloved root vegetable. Festivities reach a crescendo with the Tobago Carnival (October 30-November 1), a vibrant display of street parades, rainbow‑coloured costumes, soca music and traditional performances.
