TIS survey on GISC ignored by agents
INSURANCE provider Travel Insurance Services claims only six independent agents out of 1,800 responded to its survey on new General Insurance Standards Council regulations. The questionnaire was aimed at finding out how many agents intended to join the GISC and comply with its rules.
The GISC recently agreed to water down strict new criteria for selling insurance, following protests from ABTA. Compliance with the GISC’s rules is currently voluntary, but could become compulsory next year.
TIS head of travel products Robert Smith said: “Clearly agents are less concerned about the proposed GISC regulations than we have been led to believe. We had thought the survey would be a way of identifying agents’ concerns.”
ABTA head of finance Mike Monk said he had received plenty of responses from agents about the new GISC rules.
“I don’t know who TIS sent its survey to. They may not have been ABTA members, or they may not sell travel insurance,” he said. “Members are probably happy for ABTA to take the lead on this issue.”
