Israel tourism numbers approaching pre-pandemic levels

Tourism to Israel is approaching pre-pandemic levels, 13 months on from the lifting of all Covid-19 entry restrictions.

The country removed all remaining Covid rules in mid-May 2022, enabling international travellers to visit without showing proof of vaccination, recovery or a negative test result.

Figures from Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics show there were 376,4000 tourist arrivals in May 2023, up from 262,000 in May 2022 – but still behind the number seen in May 2019, when there were 465,000 visitors.

From January to May 2023, there were 1.76 million tourist arrivals, compared to just over two million between January and May 2019.

A total of 94,700 British arrivals were recorded for May 2023 – a similar number to Germany (95,000) and Russia (88,300).

The biggest overseas markets are the US (443,000) and France (114,000).
