Security checks will now be quicker at Luton airport, thanks to the installation of next-generation scanners.
The airport said passengers no longer need to remove liquids and electronic items from their bags as they pass through security.
It said in a statement: “The completion of the £20 million project positions [Luton airport] as one of the first major airports to complete the roll-out in time for the busy summer holidays.
“With all security lanes at the airport now equipped with state-of-the-art body scanners and CT scanner technology, passengers travelling this summer will benefit from faster security processing times, although current government restrictions mean bottles and containers must still be limited to 100ml or less.”
Neil Thompson, chief operations officer at Luton, said: “This investment provides London Luton Airport with enhanced screening technology that will significantly elevate the service provided to passengers flying from LLA this summer and beyond, aligning perfectly with the simple, friendly passenger experience we always look to deliver.”
Luton also has a new ‘prebook security’ option, a free service which allows passengers to skip security queues by reserving a 10-minute slot up to four days before travelling.
The pre-book service is currently running on a trial basis and is available for passengers arriving at security between 3am and 4.30am.
