The international airport on Mauritius reopened on Tuesday (January 16) after a tropical cyclone struck the Indian Ocean island.
Strong winds and widespread flooding were reported, triggering a UK Foreign Office travel alert.
However, the island’s SSR International airport has now reopened and cyclone warnings in Mauritius have been lifted.
The Foreign Office has updated its advice for the island but noted: “However, Tropical Storm Belal will continue to influence the weather.
“Remain cautious and follow instructions from local authorities closely.”
Air Mauritius has resumed some flights and has listed details of services that have been cancelled or rescheduled.
It said in a statement: “Air Mauritius makes an appeal to all its passengers not to show up at the airport until they have been informed of the timings of their rescheduled flights.
“Air Mauritius will keep its passengers informed of affected flights through its call centre, on its website at airmauritius.com on its social media platforms and through regular communiques.”
The airport said on its website: “Intending passengers are strongly advised to contact their respective airlines for further information on the status of their flights and not to proceed to the airport, unless receiving confirmation of the revised departure time.
“In order to ensure a smooth resumption, access to the Check-in Hall of the Terminal will be temporarily restricted to departing passengers.”
