Cruise2 has signed a one-year partnership with Reading FC in an attempt to reach a “new audience”.
The season-long agreement with the League One club will produce pre-match “activations” as well as half-time competitions.
Neal Hussey, head of commercial and business development at the cruise specialist, said: “We’re looking to showcase the world of cruise and travel to a new audience and that’s exactly what we believe we’ve found in Reading FC.”
The club’s location half an hour from Heathrow was among the key factors influencing the final decision after Cruise2 considered teams across the UK.
Hussey also cited a series of statistics shared by Clia illustrating the potential for growth in the cruise market.
A total of 76% of people who had never cruised would consider taking a cruise, he said, while 90% of people who go on a cruise would book another one and 26% of people go on a cruise twice a year.
He also cited a finding that Reading fans are three times more likely to purchase from a brand that the club partners with.
Cruise2 founder and managing director Chander Prakash said: “This is a hugely exciting partnership for Cruise2 and a landmark moment in our journey as a business.
“Since launching in 2014, we have worked tirelessly to build a trusted and respected cruise brand, navigating some of the most challenging periods our industry has ever faced.
“To see Cruise2 partnering with a historic football club such as Reading FC is something our entire team is immensely proud of.
“Reading FC has a loyal and passionate fanbase, and we see a fantastic opportunity to introduce more people to the world of cruising.
“Through the Cruise2 customer engagement programme, we want to demonstrate just how diverse, accessible and rewarding a cruise holiday can be.”
He added: “From a start-up to becoming the official cruise agency partner of Reading FC, this partnership reflects the ambition, resilience and commitment that have defined Cruise2’s journey over the past 12 years.”
Reading FC co-chief executive Joe Jacobson said: “We’re delighted to welcome Cruise2 to Reading Football Club as our official cruise agency partner.
“It’s a partnership that will bring something different to the matchday experience, with exciting activations, competitions and opportunities for our supporters throughout the season.
“At Reading FC, we’re always looking for ways to create memorable experiences for our fans, both on and off the pitch, and Cruise2 shares that ambition.
“Their passion for engaging with the local community made them a natural fit for the club, and we’re looking forward to working together over the coming season.”
