MSC Cruises has opened the world’s largest and “most advanced” cruise terminal at PortMiami.
The 492,675-square foot facility is capable of processing up to 36,000 passengers per day and features 22 biometric e-gates, 18 biometric facepods to verify passports and 42 luggage screening machines to “streamline the embarkation process”.
The terminal will be able to welcome three ships at the same time and will serve MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys ships sailing from Miami, including MSC Cruises’ new flagship MSC World America, which will be named at the terminal in a ceremony on April 9 before its inaugural season in the Caribbean.
It also has a six-level car park with more than 2,400 spaces which can be reserved in advance on the MSC for Me app or the MSC Cruises website, and there are options to arrive by bus, taxi or ride share with a covered path to the main entrance.
Passengers for MSC Yacht Club, the luxury “ship-within-a-ship concept”, will have exclusive access to a private lounge before embarking on their cruise.
The terminal was designed by global design firm Arquitectonica and built by Fincantieri Infrastructure.
