Teletext Holidays has been revived under new ownership with the launch of a campaign to re-establish itself as the “home of affordable holidays”.
The travel agency, which was closed down by liquidators four years ago, is now under the ownership and management of Teletext Travel, trading as teletextholidays.co.uk, after it acquired the intellectual property from the liquidators in 2023.
It has no affiliation with the company previously known as Teletext, or Truly Travel, which became Teletext Holidays’ sole supplier of holiday offers and advertising in 2013, both of which were placed into liquidation.
The new owners said “several experienced team members from the previous company” had remained with the business after it was brought under new ownership two years ago.
In a statement, the company said: “Over the past 18 months, the team has worked diligently to rebuild and strengthen internal operations, revamp the customer experience and launch a fully redesigned website aimed at delivering greater value and convenience.”
The website has been revamped with a “fresh, new look” and modern design while also retaining some of the “classic Teletext nostalgia”.
It is aiming to reposition itself in the “affordable holiday market” with a continued focus on destinations such as Spain, Turkey and the Canaries, and has launched a ‘Summer of Giveaways’ campaign as part of this.
The business has partnered with Airalo, the world’s first eSIM provider, for the campaign for its first full summer of trading since it was relaunched last year.
As part of the new campaign, customers booking selected holidays through Teletext Holidays will receive free Airmoney to redeem for mobile data from Airalo to stay connected while on holiday abroad.
The campaign is also offering offers as part of a summer sale, free transfers to selected five-star hotels and social media giveaways.
Ricky Durrance, head of partnerships at Teletext Holidays, said: “We are incredibly excited to kick off our first full summer season since relaunching the brand under new ownership, and our partnership with Airalo plays a pivotal role in our Summer of Giveaways campaign.
“As we continue to re-establish Teletext Holidays as the home of affordable beach holidays, this collaboration strengthens our commitment to delivering unbeatable value for our customers. This is just the beginning of what we hope will be a memorable summer.”
Andrew Ratcliffe, head of partnerships at Airalo, added: “We’re proud to partner with Teletext Holidays to help holidaymakers stay effortlessly connected this summer. This collaboration reflects our shared goal of enhancing the travel experience by providing value and convenience when holidaymakers need it most.”
Liquidators were appointed to the former company in 2021 because of “ongoing challenges to meet existing non-travel creditors” following the Covid pandemic and its membership of the Travel Trust Association (TTA) was terminated. It stopped taking bookings on October 29, 2021, owing £1.2 million in refunds and was subject to legal action from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) over the failure of Truly Holdings to refund cancelled package holidays.
