Princess Cruises has taken delivery of its second Sphere Class ship, Star Princess, at a ceremony at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.
The ceremony symbolises the completion of construction and official transfer of the ship from the Fincantieri shipbuilding company to Princess Cruises.
This was attended by Princess Cruises president Gus Antorcha, Star Princess captain Gennaro Arma, Fincantieri chief executive Pierroberto Folgiero, and other officials from the shipbuilding company, the cruise line and local government officials.
The 4,300-passenger ship is the seventeenth in the line’s fleet and will sail to Barcelona ahead of its inaugural voyage on October 4, an 11-night Western Mediterranean cruise.
Star Princess has more than 1,500 balcony staterooms, 30 dining and bar venues, and areas on sister ship Sun Princess like the adult-only area called The Sanctuary Collection, The Dome, The Piazza public area and Spellbound by Magic Castle.
Antorcha said: “Today is a proud moment for Princess as we welcome the new Star Princess to our incredible fleet.
“This remarkable vessel is a testament to the innovation and craftsmanship of our long-standing partners at Fincantieri, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to the shipbuilding team for bringing our newest ship to life.”
