Royal Caribbean has introduced a new policy which means diners who don’t turn up for bookings made at its specialty restaurants will be charged a fee.
The cruise line said in a statement: “Beginning September 1, Royal Caribbean will apply no-show fees for specialty dining reservations fleetwide.
“A 24-hour cancellation period will be enforced for all specialty dining reservations and culinary experiences, excluding Star Class and Dining Package reservations.
“Any reservations cancelled within this window will incur a fee.
“This change allows us to ensure guests have a chance to enjoy popular dining experiences during their vacation, especially those with limited capacity.”
The specialty cruise restaurants include venues such as Chops Grille, Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen, Izumi and Chef’s Table.
The fee varies, but it is typically $25 per person apart from the following venues where it’s $50 – for Supper Clubs, Omakase, Royal Railway, Hibachi/Teppanyaki and Chefs Table. The Celebration Table fee is 50% of the base cost of the reservation. The fee for all other venues is $25 per person.
