The UK’s chief inspector of air accidents is to become a non-executive director at the Civil Aviation Authority.
Crispin Orr brings more than 25 years of experience in aviation safety, most recently in his role at the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB).
The appointment supports the aviation regulator’s commitment to the highest standards of safety and public protection in UK aviation and aerospace, according to a statement.
CAA chair Sir Stephen Hillier said: “Crispin brings valuable experience and insight on safety matters to our board at an important time for the aerospace sector.
“We look forward to working with him, as we continue to deliver our mission to protect people and enable aerospace.”
Aviation, maritime and technology minister Keir Mather added: "I’m pleased to welcome Crispin Orr as the newest Civil Aviation Authority non-executive director.
“I know he will bring his valuable experience to the role, including a detailed understanding of aviation regulation, and will continue the CAA and government’s close collaboration to deliver an innovative, safe, and growing aerospace industry."
Orr, who joins the CAA board in January, said: “I am delighted to take on this role and that I have the opportunity to contribute to the safety and security of UK aviation at a time when the sector faces both exciting opportunities and complex challenges.
“I look forward to working with colleagues across the Civil Aviation Authority and the wider aviation community to ensure the UK remains a global leader in aviation safety, while embracing innovation and supporting sustainable growth.”
