Responsible tourism expert Harold Goodwin has joined the Travel Foundation charity as a trustee, following unanimous approval from the board.
He is professor of responsible tourism at Manchester Metropolitan University and a director of the International Centre for Responsible Tourism.
Goodwin is also an advisor to World Travel Market on responsible tourism and is involved in several industry-related committees, including being chairman of the judges for the annual World Responsible Tourism Awards.
Travel Foundation chair of trustees, Noel Josephides (Sunvil Holidays), said: “Harold’s background in education and research, among many other things, will add a new dimension to the board.
“He’s worked in destinations with local communities, governments and the industry to apply theoretical knowledge, which marries with the Travel Foundation’s practical nature.
“The Foundation’s new strategy focuses on destinations and collaboration, and Harold will certainly add value in these areas.”
Goodwin added that the Foundation’s shift in strategy “fits with the direction of my work – putting the destination into the spotlight”.
