British Airways has extended its pause on sales of short-haul flights from Heathrow for a further week, to August 15.
The carrier put short-haul flights up to August 8 on stop-sale on Monday, before extending the pause on Tuesday.
It means no new bookings can be made on imminent short-haul departures, though bookings are available for inbound legs.
The move comes as the carrier aims to adhere to a cap on departures introduced by Heathrow, which was accompanied by a request for airlines to curtail new bookings in the peak summer season.
Heathrow previously announced it would cap the number of departures at 100,000 per day until September 11.
A BA spokesperson said on Monday: “As a result of Heathrow’s request to limit new bookings, we’ve decided to take responsible action and limit the available fares on some Heathrow services to help maximise rebooking options for existing customers, given the restrictions imposed on us and the ongoing challenges facing the entire aviation industry.”
Speaking after the announcement of the cap on July 14, the carrier said: “As a result of Heathrow’s request, we will now need to take a small number of additional flights out of our schedule and we will be contacting customers to apologise, advise them of their customer rights and offer options including rebooking or refund.
“We also know that some customers may want to review their travel plans in light of the current travel challenges and have introduced a policy that will allow customers to easily change travel dates so that they have additional flexibility.”
