Homeworking agency InteleTravel said it has seen strong sales in the two weeks since Russia invaded Ukraine, despite some fears that the war has affected consumer confidence.
Some travel firms have reported a slowdown in sales for the first time since the start of the year as fears grow about how long the Ukraine conflict will last.
However, in the period from February 24 to March 10, InteleTravel sold £2.5 million worth of holidays, up 61% on the comparable period in 2019, before lockdown, and on a par with the same period in 2021.
The agency said holidaymakers “remain determined to travel” after two years of restrictions, despite uncertainty in Europe and rising fuel prices that have led some commentators to predict consumers would cut back.
Popular destinations for agents’ clients include Dubai, the Maldives, US and the Caribbean, with sales being made for 2022 and 2023.
In the first two months of the year, InteleTravel sold more than £11 million worth of holidays and reported a record sales month in the UK in January, with total bookings topping £6 million for the month.
Total bookings for the first two months of 2020 were about £5 million.
Tricia Handley-Hughes, InteleTravel UK director, said: “The situation in Ukraine is tragic and people are naturally concerned about what is going on and the impact on them.
“But our feedback and bookings figures show that people will not be deterred from having a holiday.
“This may change, but for now we are enjoying the extended peak sales period.”
