Tui to remove aircraft based at Edinburgh for summer 2022

Tui UK & Ireland will not have an aircraft based at Edinburgh airport for summer 2022 – but holidaymakers will still be able to depart from the Scottish capital.

The company currently has one aircraft which is based overnight at the airport. It also has a base in Glasgow.

The decision means holidaymakers will have to fly on Tui aircraft from other bases or other airlines.

In a statement, the company said: “Subject to government guidelines, Tui plans to re-commence the operation of holidays from Edinburgh on its own aircraft to popular summer beach destinations this summer, and cruise, ski and winter sun routes this winter.

“From summer 2022 it still plans to offer holiday packages on Tui Airways flights and on other airlines.”

Karen Switzer, Tui’s aviation planning director, said: “As the airline with the largest regional airport network in the UK, it has been a difficult decision to remove our aircraft based at Edinburgh airport next summer.

“We know how important regional flying is to the local community, the airport, and our airline team, and we want to thank colleagues and partners for their understanding and ongoing support.

“We’re continually reviewing our flying programme to make sure our aircraft are in the right locations to give as much choice as possible to our customers.

“Making this operational change will help protect our long-term future and we look forward to continuing to work with Edinburgh Airport.”

Meanwhile, Tui River Cruises has extended the delay on first sailing dates to August 15 for Tui Maya and August 16 for Tui Skyla.

Marella Cruises has extended cancellations for its planned sailings on Marella Discovery up until to October 25 and on Marella Discovery 2 up to October 31.

Marella Explorer 2’s planned sailing from Naples to Montego Bay on November 4 has also been cancelled

Marella Discovery 2’s Asia sailings and Mediterranean departures from Cyprus remain cancelled from November 1 to April 30, 2022.

“All customers impacted by these cancellations are being contacted directly and can request a full cash refund, or change to a later date or alternative holiday with a booking incentive,” Tui said.
