Club Med is to open a second resort in Thailand.
The 303-room Exclusive Collection resort in Koh Samui is due to open in the second half of 2028.
The new opening will be the all-inclusive brand’s third Exclusive Collection resort in the southeast Asia and Pacific region and the second property in Thailand, following Club Med Phuket, which opened in 1985.
The resort on the northern coast of Koh Samui will be located a 25-minute drive from the island’s airport.
A private beach that spans over 200 meters will offer a variety of sports and activities.
An existing property will undergo a full redevelopment, including upgraded guest rooms and public spaces, new dining concepts, and the introduction of signature Club Med experiences such as the Kids Club.
Central Group Capital, part of one of Thailand’s leading conglomerates, is backing the project through its inaugural fund, launched in 2023 with fully subscribed capital of approximately $300 million.
The fund focuses on high-potential hospitality investments that support the growth of Thailand’s tourism sector.
Soravit Chairoj, managing partner and co-head at Central Group Capital said: “We are a firm believer in the unique attraction of Thailand to tourists from around the world, and Samui is one of our top international destinations.
“We are fortunate to have the opportunity to acquire and re-develop this beautiful property.
“Our team has carefully designed this resort to take full advantage of its beautiful private beach and lush greenery.
“We look forward to working with the Club Med team to welcome guests from all around the world and introduce them to the signature island charms of Koh Samui.”
The new resort will join a global network of more than 60 Premium and Exclusive Collection resorts across 25 countries.
The Exclusive Collection offering now represents 13% of the brand’s global capacity, spanning resorts, villas, chalets and the Club Med 2 sailing yacht.
Club Med president and chief executive Stéphane Maquaire said: “This exceptional property situated on an exclusive beach along the coast of Koh Samui marks an exciting expansion in our portfolio.
“With the acceleration we have been making, from the soon-to-be opened Club Med Borneo in Malaysia and Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari, this new chapter will continue to strengthen Club Med’s leadership in premium, all-inclusive experiential holidays in breathtaking destinations such Koh Samui.
“Beyond the guest experience, we remain steadfast in our commitment to creating a lasting, positive impact for the regions we call home by empowering local workforces with varied career paths and sustainable destination development.
“This holistic approach ensures our presence contributes to the long-term environmental and economic vitality of our community partners and host destinations.”
