Disney Cruise Line to launch interactive experience on Disney Wish

Disney Cruise Line is set to launch a new interactive experience on soon-to-launch vessel Disney Wish that uses the Play Disney Parks mobile phone app.

The experience – called Disney Unchartered Adventure – begins at the point of booking and can involve up to six passengers completing different ‘quests’ – or games – before a ‘finale’ event at an onboard venue.

Currently four quests are included in the experience, but Davey Feder, Walt Disney Imagineering software product manager, said more would be added later.

Characters from Disney and Pixar films – including Peter Pan, the Princess and the Frog and Finding Nemo – all feature in the experience that requires a group member to own a smart phone.

Passengers can choose how many quests they want to complete before the scheduled finale events.

Feder said: “We want families to see themselves as heroes on board a ship. We are infusing the Disney Wish with innovative technology, like augmented reality and physical effects, to create a hidden layer of magic that can only be unlocked with Disney Uncharted Adventure.

“We want to allow our guests a lot of flexibility with this. You can experience all the quests right away as soon as you get on the ship or they can be done at your own pace. The finale is at a set time.

“It’s designed to bring families together. Maybe a parent thinks that [Disney Unchartered Experience] will not be for them but this is designed to be done together. It will bring families closer together.”

He called Disney Unchartered Experience “a heads-up experience”. He added: “We want this experience to be all around you, rather than one where you’re looking down at your phone.

Disney Wish will sail its maiden voyage on June 9, 2022, followed by a season of three- and four-night cruises to Nassau, Bahamas, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, from Port Canaveral, Florida.
