Fred Olsen Cruise Lines to recreate record-breaking sailing

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines plans to repeat its record-breaking transit of the Corinth Canal in May 2023.

The line’s ship Braemar became the largest vessel to ever sail through the 6.4 kilometre canal in Greece in 2019.

At its narrowest point, the canal is 24 metres wide. Braemar is 22.52 metres wide, and nearly 196m long.

Fred Olsen has scheduled a return to the canal with an ex-Southampton sailing called the Corinth Canal and Greek Islands cruise in May 2023.

Ports of call include Kefalonia, Syros, Rhodes, Crete, all Greece; Valetta, Malta; Ibiza; and Lisbon. Prices for the May 3 departure start from £4,999.

Clare Ward, the line’s director of product and customer service at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said: “Our journey planners work hard to craft every cruise with the joy of the journey in mind, but this cruise offers a sailing experience like no other.

“While the canal transit will undoubtedly be a highlight, this cruise delivers a host of unforgettable experiences.”
