MSC Cruises to base ship in New York City

MSC Cruises is to operate year-round sailings out of New York for the first time from April 2023.

MSC Meraviglia is due to homeport in the city and offer cruises to the Caribbean, Bermuda, New England and Canada.

Itineraries range from six to 11 nights and go on sale on Wednesday (March 9).

Caribbean itineraries, of seven or eight nights, feature calls into Nassau and MSC Cruises’ private island Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in the Bahamas.

Six-night Bermuda itineraries include three days at King’s Wharf on the island.

Northern American itineraries of 10 or 11 nights, include stop-offs at Boston, Massachusetts; Portland, Maine; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia; and Saint John, New Brunswick.

Longer 11-night itineraries include a call into Newport, Rhode Island.

MSC Cruises chief executive Gianni Onorato said: “New York is one of the most incredible and vibrant destinations in the world so by adding the city as a year-round homeport for MSC Meraviglia we are greatly enhancing our offering in North America.

“The itineraries will have a very strong appeal not only for our guests in the US but also for international holidaymakers.”

He added: “We designed our mix of itineraries to take advantage of New York’s geographic flexibility.

“Of course, for those guests that wish to discover New York there is the option to do so pre or post their cruise to really make the most out of their holiday.”
