Saga’s Spirit of the Danube is due to embark on its maiden voyage on Monday evening after a joint naming ceremony with sister ship Spirit of the Rhine on Saturday.
The ceremony in Arnhem was attended by more than 100 people involved in the ships’ design and build and included speeches from representatives including Saga Cruises’ commercial director Peter Wright.
Naming duties and the traditional bottle-smashing ceremonies were carried out by the ships’ godmother, British writer and broadcaster Dame Jenni Murray.
Spirit of the Danube’s inaugural cruise is a seven-day Dutch and Belgian Waterways itinerary, including tours of Amsterdam, Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp.
Spirit of the Rhine left Arnhem for Amsterdam following the ceremony, ahead of its first departure on Wednesday.
