C&M Travel Recruitment has reported that the number of new candidates looking for travel jobs jumped by 62% between December and January, with the number of new vacancies almost keeping pace.
The additional candidates resulted in the second-highest total in the last 20 months, behind only January 2025.
Although the number of vacancies rose by 61% on December’s figure, last month’s total was 38% lower than last January.
The recruitment company added that the number of candidates placed in new travel jobs last month fell by 9% compared with December 2025 and by 12% compared with January of that year.
C&M Travel Recruitment co-owner and managing director Barbara Kolosinska said: “For the upcoming year to be successful for travel recruitment, we need a healthy influx of new applicants and job openings, so to see candidates and vacancies record month-on-month increases of more than 60% each in January is incredibly encouraging.
“This is a strong start to the year and we’re hopeful that these figures will convert into positive numbers of new job placements in the months ahead. But what we need is consistency, so we’ll be watching closely to see if this momentum can be maintained throughout the spring.”
