P&O Cruises issues warning over ‘golden envelope’ Facebook scam

Social media users have been warned against a fake Facebook page claiming to be from P&O Cruises offering a free cruise competition.

The line issued an alert yesterday informing consumers that the posting was a fake.

“Please be aware that the ‘golden envelope win a cruise’ is a scam and is not a P&O Cruises competition,” the company said.

The bogus posting features a man with an earring purporting to be Carnival Corporation chairman Micky Arison.

It attracted more than 15,000 shares on Facebook.

But one Facebook user said: “At a time when people are concerned about FB privacy why do people still just like and share fake pages…and expose their details to goodness knows who?”
