Tivoli Travel says its latest shop has been its most successful launch to date.
The agency’s fourth branch, in Denby Dale, west Yorkshire, opened in January in a former clothes shop.
Director Jo Richards said the shop was already thriving in the small village near Huddersfield.
“There is no other travel agency between here and Barnsley, so when we saw this shop was available we negotiated the rent on it,” she said.
She added: “Some of the bookings have been surprisingly good, worth £30k and £40k, which for a new shop is brilliant. It can be hit and miss during the week but Saturdays can be manic. We’ve taken more so far in sales than we did in the first year at our Mirfield branch.”
The shop also benefits from free local parking, she said, adding that footfall at Tivoli Travel’s other branches have been affected by new car parking charges.
“Councils have started imposing parking charges in the area so that has affected lots of businesses,” she said.
Tivoli Travel already has branches in Holmfirth, Mirfield and Cleckheaton.
Richards said: “I think we will stop now we’ve reached shop number four. We have done this shop up nicely design-wise and we have a sofa area for people to browse through brochures and a large area downstairs. We’re really pleased with how it is doing.”
