Newmarket Holidays’ Richard Forde to take career break

Newmarket Holidays has announced that Richard Forde, head of trade and partnerships, is stepping down from his role after 15 years with the escorted tours specialist.

The operator said Forde has been “instrumental” in building the brand’s relationships with the trade and has held industry positions such as chairman of Tipto and the Association of Touring and Adventure Suppliers (Atas).

“Forde championed the trade internally and externally in his time with the brand,” said Newmarket in a statement.

Forde said: “After more than a decade in the hot seat, now felt like the right time for me personally to take a career break, before I decide on my next chapter.

“Newmarket Holidays has had a brilliant few years of strong growth and industry recognition, and I can go out on a high.”

The company said it has celebrated numerous trade awards and accolades in recent years, “which is an indication of the support it receives from its partners”.

The statement said new initiatives will be announced in the coming months, including an upgrade to its website, adding: “The company’s commitment to the trade has never been greater and is central to its future growth strategy.”

Forde continued: “I am proud of what we’ve achieved as a team at Newmarket Holidays and I depart leaving the business in great shape, with fantastic partners supported by a dedicated and experienced trade team. I’m also leaving before anyone calls me an ‘industry veteran’!”

David Sharman, chief commercial officer, added: “Everyone at Newmarket Holidays would like to thank Richard for his hard work, for his championing of escorted touring in the industry and for building our relationships with the trade. We will all miss his presence and influence.

“Richard and I have worked together for 25 years, and I consider myself very lucky to have worked alongside someone with such honesty, integrity and humour, and I am pleased he has made this decision for himself and his family.”

Details of Forde’s successor will be announced in the coming weeks.
