Saturday has been ranked as the best day in Hays Travel’s trading history despite cost of living challenges.
Customers were reported by the UK’s largest independent travel agency group to be queuing in branches to book holidays.
January 13 topped record trading the company reported for ‘Sunshine Saturday’ on January 6 at its 470 branches and its Independence Group.

Hays Travel reports best Saturday in trading history
About 90% of branches are open on Sundays to meet additional demand, with many opening for extended hours this month to help customers.
Perennially popular destinations such as Spain, Portugal and Turkey continue to be top sellers for summer 2024.
Branches are also reporting increased interest in holidays to North America, particularly New York and Orlando.
Increased bookings are also being made to luxury hotels in Asia, namely Thailand, Bali, and Singapore.
Chair Dame Irene Hays said: “Saturday 13 January was the best trading day in Hays Travel’s history and a record day for our Hays Travel Independence Group members too.
“Despite the ongoing cost of living challenges, we know that people are willing to prioritise their annual holiday over other non-essential spend.
“Booking now means that our customers can access great deals from operators and secure their chosen destination – and have some sunshine to look forward to while the weather outside is cold and grim.”
She added: “Customers appreciate the level of service and reassurance they get from our agents in branch, who can give expert advice and peace of mind. People can book with us knowing that they are fully financially protected, with a low deposit then spread the cost of their holiday through direct debit.
“My thanks go to all our brilliant people in retail branches, our network of homeworking travel consultants, and our head office colleagues, who are working hard to look after our customers during this very busy time.”
Lisa Henning, managing director at Inspire Group, echoed the strong trading message,
She said: “Across our retail and homeworking businesses, we have had a really strong weekend, with bookings exceeding expectations and two particular trends standing out.
“The book to travel date is short, with many of those booking departing within the next eight weeks, and the average value is really strong.
“This is due in part to rising costs, but also demonstrates that people aren’t prepared to compromise and want to trade up on the standard of their holiday.”
