UK tourists to Turkey rose 19% in first half of 2024

UK tourists visiting Turkey rose by 19% in the first six months of the year to reach almost 1.8 million.

The year-on-year rise from the country’s third largest source market came as overall numbers increased by almost 14% to 26.1 million.

Tourism revenues in the period grew by 9.3% to £18.5 billion as the average daily expenditure per visitor reached £76.

Russia was the country’s biggest market with more than 2.7 million travellers to Turkey in the January to June period, despite the war in Ukraine.

The number of German visitors exceeded 2.5 million in the half-year.

The major tourism hubs of Antalya, İstanbul, İzmir and Mugla were the most popular destinations.

Tourism minister Mehment Nuri Ersoy said that the first six months’ results confirmed Turkey’s commitment to its year-end target of 60 million visitors and £47 billion in revenues.
