Foreign Office issues France travel advisory over pre-Easter protests

Mass protests in France are planned for April 6 and could spill over into the Easter weekend as part of ongoing action against pension reforms.

Travel has been disrupted since mid-March due to demonstrations across the country.

An updated Foreign Office travel advisory warned: “Co-ordinated strike action and large-scale demonstrations are next planned for Thursday 6 April.

“Industrial action may start the evening before the strike day and run for several days.

“You should monitor the media, check the latest advice with operators before travelling, avoid demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities.”

Spontaneous protests in central Paris and elsewhere in France have been staged since the middle of March.

“Protests are likely to take place and could occur with little notice. Some protests have turned violent. The protests may lead to disruptions to road travel,” the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office added.

“There is also ongoing strike action affecting multiple sectors including transport networks.”
