Prime minister Boris Johnson has confirmed the government intends to add the booster vaccination to the NHS Covid Travel Pass, saying those who get the extra jab will find “life including foreign travel easier”.
The app currently shows if holidaymakers have been double-vaccinated but does not show if holidaymakers have had the third booster vaccination. The government said the booster is now being rolled out to all those over 40 who are eligible.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Johnson was asked if and when the booster would be added to the current Covid Travel Pass as restrictions change in destinations.
In France, Brits over 65 who have not had a Covid booster will be banned from restaurants and attractions from December 15.
Johnson did not give a date but said: “I think we will be making plans to add the booster dose to the NHS Covid Travel Pass. Again, the general lesson for anyone who wants to travel is that getting fully vaccinated with a booster will make your life easier in all kinds of ways, including for foreign travel. This is yet another reason to get it done.”
He added that there would have to be an adjustment in “our concept of what accounts for a full vaccination”, adding that the booster “massively increases” protection against Covid to over 90%.
