Travellers to France are being urged to check flights and rail travel amid mass strikes across the country today (Thursday).
The nationwide protests against plans to raise the French retirement age from 62 to 64 are expected to cause disruption to all forms of transport and public services.
A revised timetable has been put in place by Eurostar with a warning of “major disruption” to public transport, train connections and other private and public services in France.
The high speed Channel Tunnel passenger train operator said: “There will be a general strike in France on 19 January, involving demonstrations and widespread disruption in multiple sectors.
“The strike will have an impact on the availability of some of our crew and the opening hours on the high-speed line we use in northern France. There will also be a knock-on effect on 20 January.”
One in five flights at Paris Orly airport (pictured) are reported to have been cancelled with a warning of “many delays” and disruption to public transport.
EasyJet said: “We’ve been advised that there will be national strikes taking place in France on Wednesday 18th January from 19:00 to Friday 20th January to 07:00, that is likely to affect transport services including air and rail travel.
“If you are due to travel to or from France during this period please check the status of your flight before you leave for the airport.”
Ferry services between Dover and Calais have been suspended this morning, although crossings to Dunkerque are due to run as normal, with advice that the Kent port and local roads may be busier than usual.
Sailings to Calais are expected to resume in the afternoon.
