Ambassador Cruise Line’s #AmbassadorForWhales fundraiser has raised £18,426 to support a charity’s work protecting whales, dolphins and porpoises.
Running from October 27-November 12, a total of £9,213 was raised for the marine conservation charity Orca, which Ambassador then matched to double the impact of every contribution received during the two-week fundraising campaign.
The initiative was launched to build on Ambassador’s four-year partnership with Orca and provide additional support for the charity’s conservation, research and citizen science work.
Funds raised will help Orca to monitor vulnerable marine mammal populations, gather data to reduce ship strikes and inform long-term marine policy.
Donations were made online and through activity on Ambience during the 16-night Orca CEO sailing to the Land of the Northern Lights & Scotland, which departed Tilbury on October 27.
The sailing featured Ambassador chief executive Christian Verhounig and Orca chief executive Sally Hamilton, who hosted ‘In Conversation With’ sessions and Q&As exploring their shared work in sustainable travel, tourism and marine conservation.
The CEO Sailing is part of a broader programme of 21 dedicated Orca itineraries across the 2025-26 season. Each Orca sailing features an education programme aimed at offering guests the opportunity to learn more about the marine environment.
Verhounig said: “Our continued partnership with Orca highlights our shared commitment to sustainability, education and the preservation of the oceans we sail in.
“We are extremely grateful for the support shown throughout #AmbassadorForWhales.
“As a responsible cruise line, it is our duty to help protect the incredible wildlife that calls the world’s oceans home while raising awareness among our guests and crew about the importance of protecting marine life.”
Steve Jones, fundraising and operations director at Orca, added: “#AmbassadorForWhales has been a fantastic success and we are delighted with the support shown throughout the campaign. Every donation will have a real impact at a crucial time for whales and dolphins and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed.”
Ambassador’s collaboration with Orca also includes the cruise line’s Anti-Whaling Campaign, which raises awareness of commercial whaling and ensures no Ambassador itinerary features experiences linked to whaling, dolphinariums or captive marine mammals.
