Norwegian Cruise Line to invest in ‘developing experiences’ at Great Stirrup Cay

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is planning to invest in “developing experiences” at its private island destination.

Speaking on board its newest ship Norwegian Aqua, NCL vice-president and chief international sales and marketing officer Jason Krimmel told agents there was “more to come” for Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas, with further updates expected in the next few weeks.

He told Travel Weekly: “We are having a new pier built which will be ready in October, and to go along with that investment we will invest in developing more experiences.”

Krimmel added: “Great Stirrup Cay has a very distinct personality of being a true upscale private island experience.

“It is, in fact, the largest real estate of the of all the private islands out there, so there’s tremendous opportunity for us to be able to expand upon the experiences we can offer.”

Gary Anslow, NCL regional vice-president and head of UK and Ireland, said the new docking station on the island would give the line the opportunity to bring in bigger ships, including Breakaway Plus Class vessels.

He said: “This massively expands our ability to bring the Caribbean to the UK audience and we will be effectively doubling the number of sailings that will stop in Great Stirrup Cay next year.”

He added that the Caribbean was “becoming more and more important” for the line, especially with the launch of Norwegian Aqua, which will sail itineraries in the region.
