Viking Cruises takes delivery of latest ocean ship

Viking has taken delivery of its latest ocean ship, Viking Venus.

The 930-passenger vessel will make its way to the UK for its naming ceremony on May 17 after it was presented to the line at Italian shipyard Fincantieri, in Ancona.

Ceremonial godmother, British journalist and broadcaster Anne Diamond, will name the ship before it sets sail on spring and summer departures around the UK on Viking’s England’s Scenic Shores itinerary.

“We are especially proud to welcome our newest ship to the fleet this year,” said chairman Torstein Hagen. “Many of us have stayed close to home for months, so this is an especially important milestone as we begin to get back out into the world again.

Viking recently announced its restart, with itineraries in England, Bermuda and Iceland beginning this May for vaccinated guests.

The addition of Viking Venus takes the line’s ocean fleet to eight identical sister ships, each with a gross tonnage of 47,800 and 465 staterooms.
