July was the busiest month in the 92-year history of Liverpool John Lennon airport.
Passenger numbers soared to more than 576,000, beating the previous record month of 569,000 set in August 2007.
Last month also saw the airport achieve its busiest single day with more than 22,000 passengers using the Merseyside airport on July 28, following the start of the school summer holidays.
Records at the airport may well be broken once again over the coming weeks, with August normally the busiest month of any year, according to the airport.
Chief executive John Irving said: “To reach our best ever monthly passenger throughput is a tremendous achievement for everyone working at the airport and something that we are all really proud off, particularly when we think back to where we have come from in recent years, when just four years ago at the height of the pandemic-related travel restrictions, passenger numbers were around 80% down on where we are now.
“This is all set to be our busiest summer season ever and we look forward to welcoming hundreds of thousands of passengers through the airport over the coming weeks, helping to get their holidays off to the best possible start.”
