Royal Caribbean Group has confirmed an order for a fifth Icon Class ship and an option for a seventh, as part of a long-term agreement with the Meyer Turku shipyard.
Icon 5 will be delivered in 2028, subject to financing, while the option for Icon 7 will come after the previously announced option for Icon 6.
These form part of a multi-year agreement with the Finnish shipyard which gives Royal Caribbean Group the right to build vessels there through to 2036.
The Royal Caribbean Group placed an order for a fourth Icon Class ship in August 2024, and agreed options to build a fifth and sixth ship in the series, which are the biggest cruise ships in the world.
The first Icon Class ship, Icon of the Seas, launched in January 2024, followed by Star of the Seas in July 2025.
The third Icon Class ship, Legend of the Seas, is currently under construction at the shipyard and is projected to be delivered ahead of schedule in July 2026.
Group president and chief executive Jason Liberty said: ”As we continue to reimagine the future of vacations, we are excited to continue collaborating with Meyer Turku to grow the Icon Class - a first-of-its-kind series that delivers exceptional vacation experiences - and position us to usher in a new era of innovation that will disrupt the vacation sector through 2036.”
The Turku shipyard has built 25 ships for Royal Caribbean Group since the mid-1990s.
