Saga has held the official naming ceremony for its newest river cruise ship, Spirit of the Moselle, in Amsterdam ahead of its maiden cruise.
It is the third purpose-build ship to join the Saga fleet, following Spirit of the Rhine and Spirit of the Danube.
Saga Magazine editor Louise Robinson acted as godmother to the ship and christened it by smashing a bottle of champagne against its hull, in keeping with maritime tradition, and gave a blessing in front of the ship’s captain, crew and Saga cruise team, including chief executive Nigel Banks.
Spirit of the Moselle has 92 cabins and two restaurants. Its maiden voyage will be on the Dutch Waterways and the Rhine itinerary.
It will sail its inaugural season on the Main - the longest tributary of the Rhine - before switching to the Moselle in 2026.
The Moselle is also a tributary of the Rhine and goes from the Vosges Mountains of northeastern France, through Luxembourg and into Germany where it meets the Rhine in Koblenz.
