Princess Cruises’ newest addition to its fleet, Star Princess, has set sail on its maiden voyage from Barcelona.
The second Sphere Class ship takes the line’s total fleet to 17 vessels and it embarked on an 11-night Western Mediterranean round-trip cruise due to call at Marseille, Civitavecchia (Rome), Naples, Sicily, Cartagena and Gibraltar.
Following its inaugural voyage, Star Princess will sail a seven-night Mediterranean itineray and then a transatlantic voyage to debut in Fort Lauderdale for its Caribbean season and official naming ceremony on November 6.
The ship has capacity for 4,300 passengers across 2,157 cabins, including 80 suites, 123 mini suites, more than 1,000 balcony cabins and 100 connecting rooms, with the choice of 30 dining and bar venues.
Princess Cruises president Gus Antorcha said: “Star Princess shines brightly as one the largest and most spectacular ships we’ve ever built, and we proudly welcome excited guests on her inaugural voyage.
“We wish our Star Princess captain, senior officers, and crew much success – may her voyages be safe, her sunsets unforgettable, and may she shine, as her name promises, in the sky and on the seas.”
