The keel-laying ceremony for Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ latest vessel Seven Seas Grandeur has been held at Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.
Regent’s leadership team were joined by Fincantieri staff – including shipyard director Gilberto Tobaldi – as one of the vessel’s building blocks was formally placed in the building dock.
The 723-passenger vessel will launch in November 2023, with a debut programme of 17 voyages in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean plus two transatlantic crossings. The cruises range from seven to 16 nights.
The line’s president, Jason Montague, said: “Since their respective debuts in 2016 and 2020, Seven Seas Explorer and Seven Seas Splendor have delighted discerning luxury travellers from across the world, earning a reputation as the most luxurious ships ever built.
“Now Seven Seas Grandeur builds upon Regent’s rich three decade-long history. This will be a ship that harmonises elegance, comfort, freedom and choice.”
Montague and Tobaldi honoured the occasion by placing three custom-minted coins on the keel of the ship, each one representing Seven Seas Explorer, Seven Seas Splendor and Seven Seas Grandeur.
The line said the coins would “forever remain embedded within the ship’s structure bringing luck for all who sail aboard”.
