Indian airline IndiGo has confirmed its London services will commence between Mumbai and Heathrow on October 26.
The London route follows the launch of services between Mumbai and Manchester earlier this year.
The date of the launch had previously been announced, with Mumbai viewed as the most likely route. Outbound services will depart at 9.30pm with flights from Mumbai departing at 2.45pm local time.
The flights will operate daily using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner leased from Norse Atlantic Airways and will offer a dual-class configuration including Economy Class and IndiGo’s Business Class product, IndiGoStretch
Pieter Elbers, chief executive, said: “Entering Heathrow, a key global hub known for its scale and connectivity, is both a proud milestone and a strategic step forward in strengthening IndiGo’s global footprint.
“The India-United Kingdom corridor has long held significant relevance, not only because of strong bilateral ties, but also due to the growing traffic between the two countries driven by students, visiting friends and relatives, business and leisure travellers.”
He added: “After the outstanding response to our long-haul debut flights to Manchester, we are excited to set foot in London, offering more travel options for our customers while reinforcing our commitment to provide seamless connectivity between India and the world.”
Ross Baker, Heathrow chief customer officer, said: “We are pleased to welcome IndiGo’s new daily service between Mumbai and Heathrow. As the UK’s international gateway, this new route will further strengthen the vital ties between the UK and India, creating opportunities for trade, tourism and cultural exchange.
“We look forward to supporting IndiGo’s international growth while offering passengers more choice when travelling between these two world-class cities.”
