The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel officially opened on Tuesday in the Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
The $2.4 billion property is the single largest structure in Asia and the second largest building in the world.
In keeping with its sister property in Las Vegas, The Venetian Macao features replicas of landmarks such as St Mark’s Square and the Doge’s Palace.
The hotel has 3,000 all-suite rooms and one million sq ft of retail space, more than any shopping mall in Hong Kong. The casino floor is the largest in the world, at 550,000 sq ft.
The property is targeting the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions market. In addition to the 15,000-seat Venetian Arena, there is 1.2 million sq ft of MICE space, more than twice the amount at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The opening coincided with the opening in Macau of Las Vegas Sands Cotai Strip, a collection of hotels to be run by brands such as Four Seasons, Shangri-La and Hilton.
“This property will generate more visitors to Macau and stimulate the economy,” said Sheldon Adelson, chairman and chief executive of Las Vegas Sands Corp.
