EasyJet to restart Alicante flights from Southend

EasyJet will relaunch its service from Southend to Alicante in October.

The airline, which last operated the route in 2020, will offer flights every Sunday and Thursday starting on Sunday, October 29.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK country manager, said she was “really pleased” about the service’s return and anticipated that Alicante would be a popular destination this year and next.

She added: “The city enjoys sunny weather all year round, which makes it a great holiday destination at any time of the year.”

EasyJet previously operated the route between April 2012 and August 2020, flying more than 856,000 passengers.

Alicante will become the seventh destination served by easyJet from Southend, with a year-round flight to Amsterdam recently announced following the addition of Paris and Geneva earlier this year.

Southend airport chief executive John Upton said: “We are excited, delighted and extremely proud to be able to deliver flights to Alicante for our passengers this winter, restarting our most profitable and popular route from October 29 and opening the door for passengers in Essex, east London and the southeast of England to explore yet another area of Spain with our airline partner, easyJet.”

Alicante, in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, is reportedly the sunniest city in Europe, with an average of 349 hours of sun each month.
