Almost three quarters of older people plan to take a holiday in the next six months and a similar proportion expect to take more than one trip this year.
But half indicated caution over spending due to rises in the cost of living.
The results come from new research by over-50s travel specialist Silver Travel Advisor.
The survey of its base of more than 125,000 members found improving confidence in making bookings and travelling.
The study found that 39% intend to spend more on holidays this year, compared to just 22% in July 2021.
And while flexibility remains the top priority for the over-50s, health and safety reassurance has dropped from second place to fifth.
The current rise in the cost of living does present more caution with half suggesting they are cautious and feel the need to spend carefully.
The full results will be presented in an industry ‘snapshot’ event on April 5.
Company owner and managing director Lisa McAuley said: “We regularly conduct research to ensure we stay close to our audience and understand how we can support them best.
“The latest set of results show some real positivity when it comes to the appetite to travel and the experiences our members are looking for – 30% said they wanted to venture further to faraway destinations, and 24% indicated they are planning a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ trip this year.”
