A-Rosa names new part-electric river ship

German river line A-Rosa River Cruises has named its soon-to-launch hybrid vessel.

A-Rosa Sena (pictured), meaning ‘beauty’ in Arabic, is currently being built at Concordia Damen shipyard near Rotterdam and will be the largest ship in the line’s fleet when it launches next year.

Its maiden voyage will be a seven-night Rhine cruise departing Cologne, Germany, on May 21, 2022, visiting Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Dordrecht and Antwerp.

Rendered images of the ship have been released by the line, showing the seating area on the sundeck, the lobby area and the lounge featuring a stage and dance floor.

A-Rosa claims 280-passenger Sena will be the first ship to operate on the Rhine with four decks.

Sena will have five cabin categories and has been designed with families and multigenerational groups in mind, A-Rosa said.

Family cabins can sleep up to five people and there is a kids club room on board the 135-metre long vessel, which is powered by two engines – one diesel and one electric.

Prices for the Rhine Discovery departure on June 11, 2022, with return flights, an Amsterdam canal cruise and a day at the Floriade Expo, start from £2,499 per person, based on two people sharing.

Lucia Rowe, managing director of A-ROSA River Cruises, said: “[Sena] will lead the way in sustainable river cruising and will open up river cruising further to the next generations.

“The new renders will give agents a taste of her unmistakable look and feel and we really can’t wait to showcase her next year when she starts sailing.”
