Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas arrives in Miami

Royal Caribbean International’s newest ship, Icon of the Seas, arrived in Miami for the first time yesterday (January 10), ahead of its official debut on January 27.

The largest cruise ship in the world was greeted with fireboat salutes, banner planes and other celebrations.

Icon of the Seas will continue making its final preparations in Miami ahead of its naming celebration and first cruise.

It offers passengers eight neighbourhoods, six record-breaking waterslides and seven pools – including the first suspended infinity pool at sea. There are more than 40 restaurants, bars and lounges.

The ship can carry 2,350 crew and 5,610 passengers.

Icon of the Seas will depart on its maiden voyage on January 27, and will operate seven-night eastern and Western Caribbean sailings, calling at Royal Caribbean’s private island destination in the Bahamas Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Argentinian football star Lionel Messi has been named as the ‘icon’ of Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas and will attend the naming ceremony.
