EasyJet will offer a twice-weekly route from Southend to Lapland this winter.
The service to Rovaniemi in Finland, which will start on December 1, will operate on Mondays and Fridays throughout the Christmas period.
EasyJet chief commercial officer Sophie Dekkers said the carrier expected the route to be popular among families, adding: “By growing our network at Southend from strength to strength, we continue to offer customers more choice, connectivity and great value across our unrivalled network, always aiming to make travel easy.”
EasyJet opened its Southend base in March, using three A320neo aircraft. The airline now operates 23 routes from the airport.
Southend airport business development director Nigel Mayes described the latest easyJet service as a “sensational” addition to the airport’s winter programme.
He added: “Whether you’re travelling to meet Father Christmas or to soak up the magic of the northern lights, this new connection offers families and festive travellers an unforgettable experience, especially when flying from our easy, speedy, friendly airport here at Southend.
“We can’t wait to see even more passengers from Essex, London and East Anglia taking off from the UK’s fastest-growing airport to enjoy the magic of Lapland this coming winter season.”
